From the assimilation of tradition and new currents, artists emerge over time all around the world who, like José Reyes, approach painting in a way that is deeply rooted in figurative tradition while at the same time engaging with new techniques.
The possibilities, drawing on all concepts and everything that has been learned, are infinite, and the contemporary art world no longer moves in a single direction dictated by an elite. Alternatives are growing and establishing themselves as a form of disobedience against a single reductionist religion, detached from an audience that has already seen too much.
Reyes accustoms us to a sensitive, nuanced painting, charged with everyday images yet transcended into a world of beauty that connects the viewer with their ancestral self and their bond with nature.
The evolution of his art depends not so much on him as on the openness of those who must judge it. But time is implacable, and his contribution will always be seen as something beautiful and capable of stirring the best within us. Rocks, cliffs, interiors, strange instruments, or whatever else he paints are merely means to lead us into a sensitive world capable of connecting us with the deepest soul of nature, toward a better end.
Many chapters could be written about his technique, leading us to recall so many artists of the past and many of the present; and yet his style remains perfectly unique.
The resurgence and vitality of infinite figurative forms, among which our artist’s work can be found, foretell a promising future for these new currents.
