Carlos Puente de Ambrosio

When reviewing the work of Carlos Puente de Ambrosio, it becomes clear that he seeks to revitalize an art system that often takes itself too seriously. In contrast to conceptual, gray, and dramatic poetics, his compositions celebrate the Life of Art from a positive and playful perspective, proposing a game between drawing and color that can be seen as an essential part of contemporary art.

His pictorial and pictosculptural installations convey a vital optimism—a personal dialogue with the joie de vivre. Never excessive, his work combines formal balance with a rich variety of iconography, the result of an inexhaustible creativity.

Esteemed critics place him within an important current of Spanish art, inheriting the legacy of Cubism and Surrealism. From Picasso, he takes the deconstruction of forms; from Miró, the use of color; and from Surrealism, his imaginary worlds. He is also associated with figures such as Ernst, Brauner, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Dubuffet.
